Duke Family Photos
It's amazing what you learn when you start researching your family tree. Back in 1994 when I took up the small hobby to occupy my mind, I quickly realized that this was more than just a hobby. Once you find one little morsel, you search for more and more. It's very much an addiction to most of us. This family was so interesting because I never knew much about this family, except that I had been given a family name and that my family lived in the south. I didn't even know my grandmother's siblings names, or that she even had some. I had never met any of them that I had remembered.
While this is the tree that I began my research on, it quickly spun out of control after the sudden death of my grandmother and her sister within months of each other. Her other sister, who did family research with them, called my mom and found my contact information then proceeded to tell me who she was and that she was going to send me information. She was afraid that it was her time too and did not want all their hard work to go unnoticed. I was made to promise that eventually, I would make it into a family history book.
I find making a book about genealogy a daunting task filled with dull facts that most people will not read unless they are specifically looking for it. And as promised, I will compile it in print form. For now, with the popularity of the internet, social media and digital communications, I've posted as much as I am able on these pages. I hope that she knows that now from the heavens. Thank you Aunt Marie.
